Debating Genre

My genre is a very debated genre. My songs I chose to represent my genre are all rap and hip songs, which are genre in their own particular categories. Rap is highly debated. Parents don’t let their kids listen to it, because they feel it’s not appropriate for kids at a young age. Some older people don’t listen to it because they despise of it. Hip hop is a very wide range of music that isn’t as highly debated as pure rap, but it stills has it’s issues.

Rap and hip hop are both stereotypical because the majority of singers and rappers in that genre are African American. People in politics, government, and capital all look down at this type of genre, but the controversy is gradually decreasing. Why? It might well be that rappers and singers are becoming more positive in their songs, and sending out better messages to our country than say it did in the late 80’s early 90’s.

The three songs I chose all represent and support this idea. They talk about our African American president. The first black president in America ever. He’s a fan of rap, hip hop, as well as a lot of different kinds of music. These three songs represent change in America, and a change that will get our country back to where it was at its peak. Whites and blacks will be looked at equally, as well as the lower class and upper class will become closer. No longer will there be poor people paying the sane amount of taxes and the higher class.

So what is my genre based on? I could say racism, change, or history. Racism is still going on. We have a black president, and everyone is not happy. Change represents the first black president, as well as a democratic party wining the election after overwhelming odds. I could choose history, because like I stated before, it’s the first black president to be elected in the history of our country.

I think I am going to choose the genre of history because I think I will have the most to say about the subject. Although in my last assignment, I titled it change, because at that time I thought it was the best genre to conclude. In class and on the blog, I hope my classmates and teacher will better help my “move” in what to call my genre.
