This is the end

Today we all turn in our final portfolio this brought to mind the song, this is the end by the doors. Inserted are the lyrics to the song. Enjoy and good luck to everyone on the portfolios!!

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
Ill never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...strangers hand
In a...desperate land

Lost in a roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

Theres danger on the edge of town
Ride the kings highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby

Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...hes old, and his skin is cold

The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and well do the rest

The blue bus is callin us
The blue bus is callin us
Driver, where you taken us

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...i want to...fuck you

Cmon baby, take a chance with us
Cmon baby, take a chance with us
Cmon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin a blue rock
Cmon, yeah

Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But youll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

blog reflection

In this course we have been making comments on this blog regularly every week ever since this class started. Posting our opinions on things such as what problems we had in this course and what we thought the meaning of words like genre were. How about we write about the blog thought or how it and the locations that we are at affect how we write and what we write about?
The technology we use is amazing. We all have a website called blogger that we have access to and anytime we want we can post something on there. Its cool because anyone else who can log into that site can see what we have to say. For this blogger site thought we don’t just post anything we want. I mean some people do but usually our teacher has a certain task we have to write and blog. That task could be for us to say what we think a definition of a word is, like the genre. Then we all would post what we thought the definition of the word was. When we would go to where all the posts are at we can see many of the other responses our classmates had or even ones of others, if they were assigned the same question.
When seeing others responses to what the teacher asked us to post about he helps us. It helps us because it shows us if what we said is similar to what others said. They don’t have to be similar as in being word for word but be similar in ideas. We see if our main ideas are alike. If they are alike it makes someone like myself feel good because I feel confident because I say things like, “Oh I’m not the only person who thinks like that” or “I can’t be too wrong because here goes someone else who said something similar to what I said.” If I was to see that too many of our responses are pretty close to being alike I would think something is wrong. I would think that maybe we all are just answering the question and not putting our opinion down because if we all were to put our opinion down at least some would be different because we all don’t think alike. Also the blog affects how we write an essay about something like. Like definition of genre, if my definition of genre was to look different from everyone else’s then I would probably have my essay work around the definition of what others thought genre was and what seemed right to myself.
The Location we were at while posting on the blog most of the time was in class. The teacher would write down what he wanted us to post on the blog and we would do that, right after he got done explaining to us. Our classroom had a lot of mac books (a kind of laptop) so we all would be able to get connected to the internet and post on the blog right from there. While posting in the classroom it kind of changes the way I feel because its something I have to do right away. Its not something I could just put off to the side and say I’m going to do another time. When doing it right away it helps gather first thoughts and how I initially feel about what our teacher is asking us to do. For example when he asked us to post what we thought the definition of genre was. If I was to see people looking confused I that would give me a reaction of thinking that maybe this won’t as easy as it sounds or that maybe I’m not thinking about it hard enough. Doing the blog during class helps with getting reactions right away and knowing how other classmates feel in person.
Before doing blogs in class I really thought writing was just doing what the assignment asked you to do. I used to just read what the assignment was and do exactly what it was asked with little effort. After seeing posts and doing more assignments I came to realize that I should incorporate what I think about things. That’s what most of our blogs asked us to do, was mainly to state what we thought something was. With combination of using the technology and using our classroom I feel that I have become a better writer because I say what is going through my mind and share my opinion instead of being straight forward with the assignment.

Blog Reflection

Blogging is an up and coming art which has revolutionized the way people express themselves drastically. Since the start of the internet age blogging has grown sporadically, ranging from the younger more technological generation to the older generations. Blogging is a much different form of expression compared to what students are normally accustomed to. This fairly recent introduction of blogging has revolutionized the way of expression.

The advance in technology has effected how we interact with each other and socially. Just as a previous blog assignment has stated the culture and art of facebook statuses has a profound impact on how people express themselves socially, even if it maybe in a cyber world setting. Much of what students are used to doing is looking at an assignment then managing to work their way though it by any means possible. This new introduction of blogging opens up more opinion and expression for the students to utilize. Differing from the normal style of writing blogging has no guideline as to what you are expected to write. Blogging can vary from person to person and the students or bloggers are not expected to write at a certain level. The technology we use today eliminated the fears people have on presenting their thoughts and feelings in front of others. In the past people are expected to hand in an assignment and then the class read it or in some circumstances the writer is expected to present their writing to a select number of students. But by using this method of writing the author is kept anonymous to everyone other then the teacher. This way the student is free to write down whatever they may feel is on their mind on any subject without the fear of what others will think.

This method of blogging as opposed to writing up a normal assignment has completely changed the way I look at writing. In past courses I have noticed that writing down an assignment seems to be a chore which everyone dreads to do but it’s an obligation unless you want to get some sort of negative repercussion. The idea of blogging ends up taking away this feeling and making it into more of an “ok I get to jot down my own ideas and fully express my thoughts” feeling. After looking back at my posts I realize that my writing has changed drastically, I have evolved from a person who writes mainly in a monotone manor to a writer who can express his thoughts without any worries. Writing in the blog format has deepened my outlook on different concepts of my writing, and it has also shifted my way of thought completely. I have gone from a introvert type of writer to more of an extrovert writer. When I seem to look back at others papers I see that there is a huge difference between the writing styles. I tend to get the impression that due to our lifestyle and culture as Americans we are expected to impress other people with our different skills. That I realize is a downfall in this culture, blogging really helps in the reversal of this age old cultural habit. People in this age need to more expressive and therefore I feel that the introduction of the blog into the class room was a wonderful idea and it has improved my writing drastically, I have became more expressive and less worrisome as to the judgments of other people.

The Effects of Blogging

The Effects of Blogging
Bogging is an interesting technology and tool that’s being used by many different groups. It’s an on-line forum where people can share ideas and different images. For our English 101 Class, students were instructed to write about their ideas of how blogging has effected how we write, what we write, and to share how blogging has changed/deepened our ideas that we had about writing. Personally, I have not enjoyed blogging. I’m trying to understand why I don’t enjoy it. Doing the assignments in English 101 is the first time I’ve ever blogged. Naturally, after posting a few assignments, I’ve become more comfortable with it. But, I still don’t like it.
I think blogging directly affects what we write and how we write. For each assignment, we were asked to write about specific things pertaining to writing, such as identifying and creating genre and techniques. The assignments I posted are not things that I would usually write or talk about. So, the assignments identified my topics to write about, and I was given the opportunity to share my personal thoughts, experiences and opinions about the topics. The ways in which I wrote for each blog posted was also affected by knowing that the instructor and classmates could/would read what I wrote. Some of my discomfort comes from wondering if I was meeting the instructor’s expectations, and wondering what my classmates would think. So far this semester, I have posted a total of six blogs. Most of the blogs were short and did not provide a lot of information. In retrospect, I think I didn’t write a lot because I really didn’t want to do the assignments; and (except for the essay Identifying Genre where I posted one statement) I felt I made my points, and met the instructor’s expectations. Two of the essays I actually enjoyed writing, but did not care for posting them on the blog. The two assignments: Universal Texts and Arguing for Genre, were essays in which I talked about things that were of interest to me: my personal art. This made a big difference in how I felt about the writings, opposed to writing about Kruger’s Prints which I initially knew nothing about and had very little interest in.
Another factor that effected my writing on the blog was my attitudes and opinions about my classmates. Recognizing that I’m older than all of them, and old enough to be their grandmother, directly impacted my feelings and thoughts of what to say to this audience. This forced me to stay focused on the assignments and topics, and not to talk much about my personal experiences and things of interest to me. In retrospect, this created problems for me, and greatly contributed to my discomforts with writing my essays and posting them on the blog. I kept thinking this audience is not interested in my personal life and work experiences, and other things I would share and address with an audience my own age. I recognize that if I was blogging for an audience that had some of the same interests that I do, and if I was blogging about things that I am specifically interested in, such as community work and social justice, learning to blog would have been a very different experience for me. While believing that my classmates would not be interested in what I have to say, I also felt I was not interested in what they had to say. I think we’re suffering from generational and cultural differences. This is not a bad thing, it’s just what it is.
Finally, even though blogging has not been a very pleasant experience, I’ve learned a lot from the class, especially about genre. And, the class has made me really think about my writing style, skills, different types of writing and techniques. All that I’ve learn will definitely help me to be a better writer. And for this, I’m grateful.

Blog Reflection

I remember on the first day when our teacher told the class that part of our participation grade was us writing in a blog. I have never written in a blog and to tell you the truth I didn’t know what a blog was all about. So I was kind of nervous and didn’t know what to expect.
Technology has certainly come a long way, especially how we write down our thoughts and ideas. Who would of thought 10 years ago or so students will be using laptops in English class to better their understanding of writing? Better yet, who would of thought we were going to be using laptops in English? Technology I believe made people express themselves more because in the technology world you don’t have to say who you are. You can just make up some random name and nobody would know your real name. That gives a lot of people comfort and enables them to say how they really feel. I believe the blog did that for me. I always worried about what people say about my ideas and beliefs. So having a secret identity on the blog enabled me to be myself. Even though I didn’t do the weekly blog postings, when I did I felt comfortable and brave to say what I want.
As I look back at my postings I do see a change of how I approached them individually. In the beginning I was a little skeptical about how this would help me be a better writer. Then as we went through the semester I learned the answer. The blog did help me be a better writer. I got to look at other people’s ideas and thoughts, which helped me think outside of my normal thinking. I got to learn what genre is, which was an interesting thing to touch on because a lot of people have a different ideas of what genre really is. The blog showed me those different ideas and it really broadened my horizons.

Life on the blog

Usually, when I see somehting like this, a blog it is for my own personal reasons not for school it gets to be something that is not easy to understand anymore. When writing on a blog you take out your thoughts, and I have gotten my thoughts on here, I talked about things I went through over the past semester, I talked about how my weeks went how they were diffrent or just abnormal in some way. But to write about something that you put down on the net that most likely just came out of your head for that specific day and then put them all toegther and say wht you have learned is somewhat difficult. I saw writing about the blog as a good thing you get out thoughts that you canot say all the time or you rant, mostly of what I am doing right now, but it is something that you go through writing on a blog. Writing on a blog would in our time of this centruy is how people in the 1930s kept journals or wrote in diaries about experiences, that's what I see it as a way to keep our experiences on record and to learn from them or look at them in the future. Writing on the blog has given me a diffrent way of writing, that I know has changed I would usually write more proper about a topic other than personal life or to even get personal, but writing on a blog early in the morning, I guess that can do that to a fellow.

blog reflection : what did i get?

Writing a blog is like keeping a journal except this blog is designed for English class. The purpose of this blog is for students in the class to contribute thought and experiences about writing. Throughout this semester, I have participated in blog activities and learned from others through the blog. On the blog I have posted my experiences and my thoughts for the English. With my posts I have gotten various feedbacks which have helped me with my writing process. The pieces of writing in on the blogs vary in topic and sometimes focus on one topic. When all the posts are about one topic which usually is in-class exercise, I learn more about that topic from other people in class. I found blog the most useful when we were writing about definition of genre and the meaning of Kruger’s prints. Although we discussed in class about Kruger’s prints and her style, it amazed me about how people apply these ideas to create their own definition. Reading others’ posts, I can see many sides of one topic from different views. I sometimes use this blog as resources for my papers. People also share their writing experiences on the blog; therefore, I indirectly learn their experiences and apply them to my papers. Blog is also a place to speak your thought without worrying about right or wrong. Blogging forces me to think and reflect in order to write so my ideas become concrete. I think I can benefit more from the blog if everyone and I voluntarily contribute more in writing on the blog. Since many people in our class treat blog exercise as assignment that has to be done, the quality of blog is lessened. Because blog exercises just require bloggers to post something on blog, some bloggers just type random things which become irrelevant to the purpose of the blog. Another purpose for the blog is getting comment from other about your work. The assignment we did where we were asked to comment on others, I receive some useful comment about my post. However, if we are not asked, no one will make any comments. I myself think that the blog can be used as a helpful tool for writing if everyone participates enthusiastically. However, being a student, we spend more time doing homework and don’t have time to participate in blog. I personally would like the instructor to comment more about our post on the blog as a way of giving feedback about our writing.

blog reflection

When first hearing that we were going to have to write down thoughts, about anything in general, I thought to myself “wow, this is going to be awesome.” I thought this because I never really got into blogging and thought they were pointless. My view point never really did change; I still feel blogs in general are pointless. But this blog had a more educational purpose to help expand our writings and techniques in writing.

But with it being a blog the only this I got was ideas from it. I never seemed to write in the correct academic way that I would have if I were asked to write it down and hand it in. I never wrote “proper” because it just didn’t feel right being on the internet at my age. I’s so prone to using my own abbreviations for everything that I found myself having to erase half of everything I typed to type it out properly.

At first the blog seemed to be showing signs that it was going to be completely unrelated to what it was intended for, but that quickly changed when we were given in class blogging assignments to jot down right away. But this also turned away many people from blogging because they figured well we are doing it in class so why should I do it now. In turn the in class blogging ceased to exist, and it seemed so did blogging period.

But with all that being done, it just shows that people who don’t want to, or just aren’t use to blogging, won’t blog. I for one am one of those people. There were of course others that seemed that blogging was a part of what they are accustomed to.

Technology Useful Since When?

I would have to say that most people use technology, and probably have heard of blogging. Until this class I never really blogged myself really. I feel that a blog was basically a short essay about what we thought, but what was good about this technology that I liked was that people could comment on them and was a good way to converse with everyone. One of my favorite topics we talked about in class and on the blog was about genre. It was very helping seeing how others thought about genres, I believe I talked about punk, and that was awesome, because I’m a big music junkie when it comes to rock stuff.

I think that technology also helped, because some people aren’t talkers, but they still have an opinion about things. I feel that blogger is a good way for them to get things out about still be apart of the class. So to see people opinions that you don’t usually hear from definitely help shift some of my thoughts on things. There is so much terminology that we talked about on blogger like strategy, Kruger prints, genre, and more. I think that since we used blogger it gave at least me a better understanding on the key words or things that effect writing the most. I basically in all of this think that blogger is sometimes easier to get a better understanding on key terms with technology than talking, because it is like you own little sheet of notes and its not just one person talking it the whole class.

Blog the World

Blog the World
Max Pascale
Mass communication used to be expensive, infrequent and took a long time. Mass communication used to be only used by high authorities such as governments to spread ideals or communicate war, treaties and politics across the globe. Compared to the very old ways of taking messages from hand to hand to today’s technology is magnanimous. Sending important messages through our cell phones to colleagues and family is something out of a futuristic science fiction. The internet and innovative thinkers have created ways to communicate messages and ideas cheap and efficiently.
The idea of a “blog” is like a club that has an interconnected idea that gets people to critique and relate on important subjects. The blog can be compared to the ancient Greek ways of the forums where the people of a nation would congregate and express opinions in a casual environment, even if the subject matter was political or taboo. The blog is a way for every kind of person to have their opinions heard. “This form of social media lends to an online generation already too busy to keep in touch.”
The blog is a place for people to vent frustration about class. One thing that was absent from the blog was communication between individuals or questions about assignments, which would have been relevant but maybe not appropriate. I expected more pictures and videos in our class blog for the purposes of humor and entertainment, not necessarily for a justified purpose or relevance. However near the end of the class blog there was slack which can be attributed to laziness or concerns with the end of the semester. Also, if we were given fun assignments like posting our Kruger images again there might have been more brainstorming.

The blog at first was a place to put funny quirks about pop-culture or anything that pertained to entertainment. Some people recklessly spew meaningless, angry rants about problems however, which the blogger should be aware of. Not all information in blogs is accurate or even coherent sometimes, which creates another aspect to the blogging world, vigilance. The blog lets the blogger become a social seeker, an adventurer seeking truth and being able to pick out misinformation. This way of knowing what is truth and lies on a blog is a style of reading and staying current with the times that needs to always be kept in context.
Blogs advance writing. Blogs covertly advance ideas about expression and interpretive writings. Blogs advance the ways people think and use vocabulary. Blogs could possibly be the future for academic writing. Although blogs are “laid-back” most of the time this class was a little more rigid on using proper grammar and bringing ideas all together. Blogs with rules and guidelines that follow a linear path can be called “bloghoods”. Blogs have come a long way from origins starting in 1997 started by Jorn Barge Blogs are ways for individuals who are interested in expanding personal knowledge by others commentaries.
The future of academic writing lays in the blogs ability to function as integration between peers. Interaction of personal opinions and writing styles or how each person presents their opinions via grammar, slang, formal vs informal leaves the door open for expanding the readers knowledge. An individual’s worldview may very well be changed overtly or covertly meaning the blog may influence the contributors and readers opinions and personal writings on an influential basis.

Eh...

Academic writing is the basic stepping stone of any writing. When it comes down to it, with out learning to write through academic studies, most people would have blan, undetailed, and sloppy writing. Even basic writing in a personal journal or diary. Academic writing gives the basic knowledge to help put what we really want to say down on the page. In the end it is the writer who makes it good or bad, its the attempt at writing anything.
I dont fully understand... wait... scratch that... i dont know what the rules or goals are for academic writing. I honestly dont care, the basic guidelines behind them is crap that I already try to incorporate into my writing. The course reader is nothing more than wasted paper and falls upon deaf ears. Basic guidelines for academic writing... i like to stick to three that honestly, i think make a good paper at least.
1. Explain, dont leave any possible detail out that will leave a reader like "what the f**k?". Half the time you think someone knows what you are talking about, they dont.
2. Make sure it makes sense. If you cant understand what the hell your writing about, who else will.
3. Basic grammar. Enough said

good or bad about academic writing

The goals, the way I view them, suggest the writing should be complete and whole basically. I see the goals as a lot to do but I think they are just there to help someone become a better writer. I'm sure none of us are perfect writers and we need these goals to help us become better in writing. By at least trying to incorporate all those goals into our writing I think its a lot better than not having any goals and just writing, unless you are really good at it. Our assignments suggest good things about academic writing because there are many things we can look at and make connections between. I think the course reader suggests academic writing should be fun but have to do with a lot of work. This is good because I would like to have fun while writing but its bad because its time consuming and it takes work and thought. This is hard for people who don't like or enjoy writing but much easier for those who like writing. Last is what I wish writing could be. I wish it wouldn't have so many goals we would have to follow and that we could just write on whatever we wanted to or on something we had experience with and then get feedback on how that turned out. I guess maybe that explains why I like reflective essays.
I feel that good or bad academic writing is way to get you ideas out to a audience, which is what every writer wants right. Good things about academic writing is using your ideas and projecting them from your head into others ears. I would say a bad thing about this is sometimes your ideas become clouded when you become biased. Another bad thing is that it is very confined and structured to the point where you have to follow a format of the 5 paragraph structure and it is to easy to fall into making your ideas confusing to the reader. The goals suggest that your writing should be structured, interpret, and be clear and concise about your subject you are projecting ideas from. I think the assignment does suggest almost the same thing but for some reason the assignment makes you feel that you have space to maybe go off on a tangent and get away from your idea a little and come up with newer ideas on the subject, or at least that what happens to my papers sometimes. I seem to get my ideas not as clear and concise as I want them to be. This is also a negative about academic writing.

The goods and the bads

Academic writing makes you think more about your topic. It also guides you to address the certain audience you want to address. One goal that I think is a good goal is having your paper be clear and concise. If it is not the paper would be messy and the intended audience will not get what you are trying to say. There is, though, one bad thing about academic writing and that is it's hard to write in a unique way. There are some many rules that its hard for you to do your own thing. You have to follow MLA style writing, you can't use a different style. And that is what i wish Academic writing could be. Other than that I believe that academic writing has more goods than bads.

writing is for chumps

The only thing that is seemingly bad about academic writing is it may put creative restrictions on what the writer is trying to accomplish. It may also restrict the style in which they write, if it is a more laid back style the academic aspect may damage the writers ability to truly write correctly in there mind how hey feel. The goals have a specific idea of the way things should be structured and written, and if you don't accomplish these set goal it is difficult to get good marks on the paper. The assignment would have the same set of ideals that the goals would have. When it is the readers decision thy want to see something that relates to them, when it doesn't they may have a harder time saying focused on what they are reading. the wish that i have for the goals is to have no restrictions or guidelines on what i can or cannot write about.

academic writing's strong points and weak points

The course reader talks about how we need to have requirements for the writing but yet, we cannot always interpret everything that is giving to us thus, the course packet. What academic writing should be is a writer's best work of trying to or doing over the minimal work and try to interpret things more than you would a regular story. You would need to relate them to the story or to what you were being asked and that can be easy or hard for you at some points. Those were the strong points, make your writing more than what you usually would relate it to as many things as possible that you know even if it is the smallest of things. When it comes to academic writing's bad perks, there are alot of things that can happen you can be having a writer's block or you could be just be having a hard time understanding what someone wants you to do. In course reader they want you to interpret things critically, well what if you don't know how to do that? Things like that are what make academic writing have flaws and uneasy to understand. For a paper once I had to tie in something to my life that was related to the story in some way sometimes that is only by chance that you are able to tie in a personal story or known about something from the outside world. If you were raised away from regular civilization you would have no idea on what to say about the outside world. In a sense, you would have to be able to know at least a little about the world in order to understand academic writing, no person can just walk in sit down and call something academic writing or interpret something down to the core in a matter of minutes, it takes time or hours to do something like academic writing, when you do hve to do somehting like this you learn to see time as a friend and an enemey in every situation you have.

Academic Writing Wacky

Academic writing is generic and somewhat faceless. This facelessness is academic writing is good. The readers/graders have to be objective in a broad look at academic writing as a whole, not incorporating bias's and opinions. The good news on writing a peice that won't be judged on personality and cultural taboos leave a lot of freedom to be creative. Also, academic writing is bad because the goals and expectations that confine it are boring and tedious. Generic academic writing is easily skipped if it doesn't have something as simple as a good title or opening sentence. Academic writing for generic purposes like grades arn't suppose to be novels or make someone an acclaimed writer overnight. The goals in the academic writers catolgue suggest meeting minimum expectations for the institutions i.e. UWM ideals on what is good and not good for english writing. The assignments that we've been given this semester are confusing and at the core the same thing over and over. The assignments want coherence, argumentation for a subject and genericness, definition of genres, and more genre motonoy. However, the assignments if done correctly can meet far beyond the goals and expectations of UWM while still being original. I wish I didn't have to write generic writing at all, I know I probaly need this class so my papers for other classes and master thesis won't be melodramatic and incoherent to the regulations of the coarse reader. I would like to see more inventiveness and originality in the assignments and if possible more detail on the goals, possibly with examples. Academic writing is just one of those painful things we've got to get through like a math class, we probably won't use it for whatever we end up doing as a profession, but its necessary.

The good, and the Bad

What is good and bad about academic writing in regards to what the goals suggest this writing should be is good because the goals are clearly stated. They are specific in what they are telling you to do, even though they don't necessarily go into great detail about how to do it. What the assignments suggest that academic writing should be are good because they do explain what they want done in order to achieve good academic writing. Each assignment is helping us to achieve the goal of writing to the standards if the goals of academic writing. The coarse reader is alright but i wouldn't call it good. It gives you the goals but it doesn't really help you to achieve the goals we are trying to accomplish. I wish the goals were easier to achieve, but i understand why they aren't. I would like it more if english courses took it a little slower in helping us to achieve the goal of being able to write on the level of academic writing on our own, but the college professors n all them people prolly know more than me, even though they aint always right.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of Academic Writing...

Well academic writing is exactly what it states, its academic and that word alone can make it seem like a chore. The goals suggest that the writing should be well thought out and a minimum of 5 paragraphs, with correct spelling, quotations to back up your information from whatever source you are using.

The assignments suggest that it should be what is asked in the prompt and if you are answering those questions that the prompt asks with the minimal goals from what standard academic writing should be.

Now the course reader suggests the goals and outcomes for both papers we write in this class, I use the word suggest loosely here because there doesn't seem to be any wiggle room on these goals. Also these goals can be really confusing because one might not understand what they are asking since most of them are up to interpretation and that can leave the student in the dark on how they should formulate their papers.

I wish the goals would be straight forward and not hide behind the language they are written in. If they were straight forward you wouldn't have as many issues with the goals and outcomes in the classroom and we would be able to spend more time on the actual writing instead of sitting and thinking of what these goals may or may not mean.

'academic' writing for me

i feel that academic writing is both a good and a bad thing. good in ways that it is intellectually correct to write proper and with academic intellect. but i feel it is bad because it sometimes takes up to much time when not done properly, and it also looks horribly if written incorrectly, which in my experiences is the most common. the goals suggest that our academic writing should be in explained in excellent detail, as well as cover many goals that pertain to proper writing, as well as making sure our audience is able to comprehend what it is we are writing about. i feel that the assignments dont suggest much on what our writing should be about other then a general direction. this can be confusing to many. the course reader doesnt seem to suggest what academic writing is bluntly, but rather indirectly. the course reader does this with the pieces that are pertained in it. the pieces show in depth detail, elaborate sentences, and for the most part they give the audience a good perspective on the topic of which it was written about. i wish academic writing could come as easy to everybody as riding a bike. but its not for most people, but with all the practice we have been putting in this semester we are striding towards bettering our writings.

Confusing Yes, Useless No

Throughout the semester i've had expectations of this class and a certain mindset to properly prepare me for class each day and the assignments received. My conclusion is thus, this class is confusing. However, i have become a better writer without a doubt on applying student goals as well as using the essay format or format for academic writing to help me write essays for other classes. That's it.

blog reflection

Writing a blog is like keeping a journal except this blog is designed for English class. The purpose of this blog is for students in the class to contribute thought and experiences about writing. Throughout this semester, I have participated in blog activities and learned from others through the blog. On the blog I have posted my experiences and my thoughts for the English. With my posts I have gotten various feedbacks which have helped me with my writing process. The pieces of writing in on the blogs vary in topic and sometimes focus on one topic. When all the posts are about one topic which usually is in-class exercise, I learn more about that topic from other people in class. Reading others’ posts, I can see many sides of one topic from different views. I sometimes use this blog as resources for my papers. People also share their writing experiences on the blog; therefore, I indirectly learn their experiences and apply them to my papers.

Track Changes = Cool

After getting a helpful note of feedback on what i am doing and not doing in my portfolio writings really helped me hone in and focus on my writing assignments in English 101. The track change revision assignment was kind of an academic writing revolution for me. This new device helped so much and is exceptionally helpful for peer revision and so on. Track changes allows not only the writer to see what he is doing from paragraph changes to something as small as a period, while also keeping what you have writing and taking out and what you add in is all seen. This perception allows the writer to keep all unusable sentences in front of them to go back to or build off of. Using the track changes for me felt like i was not the one even writing my revised paper, what i mean is that instead of deleting irrelevant stuff and forgetting about it and shrinking your paper the entire paper stays intact. Track changes makes the writer look at the writing from a high viewpoint one that is more objective. Track changes gives the writer the perspective of the teacher and helps you "yell" at yourself for even thinking of submitting some sentences in the writing. Ms Track Changes is an advantage best used if the writer can be perceptive and really look at all the "red" that can appear after you get in the rhythm of revising. The best thing about track changes is that whatever you correct can always be undone.

Audience

Being in the class and doing assignments make me automatically assume that mine audiences will be the teacher or classmates who know assignments’ topic. However, English 101 is designed differently. The instructor and classmates could read mine papers but the purpose of the class is writing to anyone regardless sex, age, and religion. Determining audiences is very important because the aim of writing is towards audiences. Since I assume that mine audiences are within a class room, a paper might lack of explanation of what it is about because of assumption that audiences already knew the topic. Now, I am aware of my audiences are beyond the size of class room so I will have a different approach to my writing. It’s important that writers provide a good explanation about what they are writing about so I always make sure that readers can understand my points, in other way, I give explanation of my choices. However, it is hard to satisfy all readers since each has different views. It is normal that there are agreement and disagreement about a paper. If one try to satisfy readers by providing common sense to gain agreement, their paper will be boring. Therefore, a paper which creates argument might be interesting.

strategy?

A strategy is some sort of planing that will get you to your goal. I can usually recognize a by when you plan something like work you plan on who you can get the work done the fastest. If you play a game like in wrestling you try to get the best weight match up so you see if you can switch people that are about the same weight like if some wrestled 135 but weighed 130 usually if he is better at 130 maybe switch the 2 wrestlers and have the better wrestler face the better opponent. so strategy basically is a plan to get you the best possible way to achieve your goal.
What is A Strategy?

A strategy is a specific plan to achieve a specific goals. Whether it's community work, art work, or creating a literary work, it involves using some specific ideas and techniques to achieve some specific outcomes. For example, some writers may start off a paragraph by asking questions to raise the readers' curiosity and interest. The writer will decide at what point in the text to answer the questions.

Referring to Community work, a lot of organizations develop strategic plans to achieve specific goals for their organizations and for the community. These plans serve as road maps to direct the organization achieve specific goals.

Delores Green

What is strategy?

Strategy is a plan that people make in order to accomplish something. In writing, I think strategy is a tool, a way which writers use in order to achieve their goals. Strategies are used to make a paper effective. How to recognize strategy? At work, a strategy can be recognize when one make plan to improve their work. For example, a company changing the wage to stimulate workers which might increase productivity. In sports, strategy is way coach set up for the line-up, or way the team will play such as focusing on defend or offense depend on situation. In personally, I think strategy is the way or plan which person benefit by it to achieve his/her goals. Strategy differ from situations, from different people, and different aims.

Come up with a plan

Strategy is like a plan. To think something out before you do it. A way to recognize strategy in sports is when in basketball one of the coaches calls a timeout to reorganize his or her team so they will have a better chance of winning. A way to see strategy at work is if someone is doing something different from everyone else because they feel they are more productive that way. What it means for someone/something to b strategic is plan something out before they do it thinking that it will help them out in a good way, or planning something for the better.

What is a strategy?

A strategy is an organized plan to help you get something specific accomplished. There are many ways to see a strategy in action in everyday in life. When you are at work you can see a lot of strategies going on. One could be when you are in a meeting and someone is giving a presentation on how to make the company better. that is a strategy. you can also see some strategies in sports. take a basketball game for instance, the plays they are doing are strategies. Something/ someone is strategic when they have a well organized plan and they are good at sticking to that plan. Take, for example, Survivor. That game is all full of strategies. So basically a strategy is an organized plan and what makes people strategic is them just being good at sticking to the main plan.

Successful Planning...

A strategy is a plan that will ultimately lead you to success, this can be found in almost every part of everyday life. Everyone uses a strategy whether it be to decide on what to do, what to wear, to do their homework or even go to work or school. Its all plan that has positive and negative effects when this strategy is used or not used.

In sports a strategy is the game plan, it is usually well coached to achieve the highest level of success and hopefully the win. In football its a defense that stops plays, or an offense that executes perfect blocks. In basketball its the way the offense is ran or the style of defense that is played an example would be zone defense, where everyone is always switching and crashing the lane. In baseball its putting in a left handed pitcher against a right handed batter.

Someone who is being strategic is someone who is always planning out their next move, and trying to be as prepared as possible in case their plan doesn't work out like they think it will. It is being mentally prepared for almost any course of action. Whether you know it or not it is a use of everyday life, its planning and be prepared for whatever adventures you may encounter that day or week.

Strategic

Strategies are the calculated tactics and plans in thought and action. Strategy is a plan of action to execute and carry out, its away to get around or through something. However, strategies can be like controlled chaos sometimes. Freewheeling or freestyling strategies can be effective. This type of strategy relys on instinct and reactions. Strategies can be most commonly seen in a physical sense, in sports. The olympian Ben Askren, a wrestler from Wisconsin was seen as having a "Western Funk" strategy that he incorporated into his mathces. He knew what he was going to do everytime he stepped on the mat, win! However, Askren didn't know what crazy tangled moves he would use or a step by step playbook that he kept in his mind. He just let it flow. Their is a method to the madness of strategy that can be effective in getting both sides of perspective on whatever you want to strategize about. Someone who is strategic has a deep understanding on a personally conscious level of organization and his/her surroundings. Their is no question on what is right or wrong, its not a philosophical debate, strategy is an implementation to do something effectively. Personally my everyday strategys seem to get side tracked, daily goals get thrown out the window when my strategy isn't tight, or my wills not there. Strategy is a science and an art, a gift that somepeople are born with and others learn from hard lessons. Strategy is necessary.

Strategy...?

What is a strategy?
Planned out action to make, or possibly make, a situation easier or work to ones advantage.
How can you recognize one in action?
*at work?
I work at the journal times newspaper in the packaging center, putting the ads into the middle of the paper. The supervisors plan out which ads will drop first so that the line will run smoother and the paper wont look like shit. They also plan who will drive and help drivers depending on number of bundles and time between each load. Its basic planning, but strategy non the least.
*in sports?
When I was on the swim team, the coach had to plan out who to put in what races based on our opposing team. Due to the fact that we weren't the best, we had to know which swimmer was kick ass on the other team and what races they were most likely going to swim, then we put all of our good people in other races to avoid that hassle and get more points.
*personally?
I lie a lot, probably boarding complusive liar actually. Point being, I lie because I am good at it. I make sure I have a lie set out before I need it. I make a background story based on true facts that are happening, most of the time it is just the time period that they are happening in that is off. I also have a believable excuse/activity that I have done before and isn't completely pulled out of the blue. Everything is believable, and I have this strategy down so well, that I don't have to plan them out and go off the top of my head when need to.
What does it mean that something/someone is strategic?
Basically, they are able to plan out crap easily and efficently. They are good at making plans and following through, thinking two steps a head and all that other non sense. Like a chess player or a Risk player person.

Strategy for Strategies.

At strategy is an organized plan of what you are intending to accomplish. You can recognize strategies at work when you see people are organized and accomplish there goals on time. In sports strategies are very common and the majority of coaches ad teams have a strategy of how the intend to accomplish there goals of winning. Personally strategies help me to stay organized and help me to set goals for large projects and homework assignments so they are finished by the given dates. When someone is strategic it meas that have a plan of what they want to accomplish, there thought process consists of planning and thinking out what they want to accomplish.

War Tactics for English 101 (Strategy)

Given the realm of possibilities in this class I believe that there are many things that have brought me to a halt in terms of this English course. For instance, the pressure of knowing that my entire grade is based on some one else reading my essays at the end of the semester which is now less than 7 short weeks away... My point being, the thing that I struggle with the most was the huge reality check that came into play. I anticipated to ace this particular class only to discover that in fact, I can write, however, I cannot write for anyone else but myself. Nor have I ever had the desire to.

My biggest problem when it comes to writing the essays for this course is trying to figure out what the hell the assignment is asking for. Until just recently when we all truly discovered that it doesn't make a bit of difference what the assignment is, the true goal is communicate our point while trying to reach the goals stated in the student handbook. With that said, I intend to focus more on the writing aspect, such as making a paper long enough that is worth reading. However, in the classroom handouts I will be the first to admit that I do not read the long essays, because I hate reading things that simply do not interest me. I am certain I'm not alone on this one. It may however be in my best interest to start taking this class more seriously since I had an ego about my wiriting and now I realize that writing is not just about putting nice words into a nice order. The writings for this class should have a point. The point I'm trying to make right now is that I seriously need to re-consider what I thought I knew...

So it is that I must learn to discover for myself exactly what I am trying to say, because if I don't know what I'm trying to say, how could anyone else know what I'm trying to say? I am able to follow the structure of the assignment however I dread going into details about things that I feel a certain apathy toward, which happens to be a considerable amount of things these days. Truly, if you wanted to know, I could go into why my essays have not been what I know they could be. I could tell you how it's because of the things I do outside of school and working and troubles with everything else, and I know that I'm not even getting off topic right now because there really is no specific question we were asked to answer for this assignment. It is safe to say however that my writings would be much better if my outside life were not so frantic and unbearable some days. So perhaps if I really wanted to fix my essays, I could just go ahead and fix my life.

For the sake of passing this class and working toward a degree I'm not even 50% sure that I want and making my family proud of me, I will state that I intend to write my next essay using all of the skills we have learned in class, and that I will make it at least 3 pages long and five paragraphs consisting of a striking introduction, 3 body paragraphs full of knowledge I hope you didn't already know, and a conclusion that will summarize yet add to the body of the text. Much like this blog entry, I will find a way to make that paper my own in hopes that if I am interested in what I am saying it is much more likely that someone else will be too.
Strategies for Writing Assignments

I think the two most challenging Goals and Outcomes for me to achieve in my writing are:

1.) Articulating and maintaining a controlling purpose that refelcts not only what matters to the writer but alsowhat matters to those who are addressed in my writings and what matters to those who are being responded to.

2.) Situating my writing and perspectives in relation to the arguments, interests, and concerns of other writers, readers, and texts.

Both of these Goals and Outcomes seem to require a thorough understanding of my audience's interests, and needs from me as a writer. This requires giving equal, and maybe more, weight to what my audience's interests and needs are, opposed to solely writing from the position of what I think, feel, and want.

My strategy for writing my papers will be to:
  • Give careful thought and consideration to who I think my audience are and their interests; for example, what would they really like to know?
  • Stay focused on the arguments I make, and provide only relevant information, and good examples.

Strategies for paper

In class, we discussed some of the strategies that can be used in paper. Based on the list of goals in the Student’s Guide, there are some strategies which I think will be useful for the portfolio. The paper first has to meet the basic requirement such as format which is MLA guidelines and grammar. One paper can’t be good if there are grammar errors which might leads to confusion. Furthermore, using correct grammar and word choices will help writer meet the goal of creating coherence and clarity. Thus using correct grammar is one of the strategies which I think should be used in portfolio. Key terms are very important and should be repeated throughout the composition. Strategies which can be used to take advantage of key terms are title and first sentence. Addressing key terms in the title and first sentence will inform audiences what an essay is about. If writer succeeds in getting audiences’ attention by creating interesting title or first sentence, it will be easier to draw audiences’ interest to your paper. Controlling purpose is also very important. However, maintain controlling purpose throughout a paper is not easy. One way to do it is repeating key terms and using pronouns to refer back to the key nouns in order to avoid repeat. Although most of the goals in student’s guide are necessary for a qualified paper, there are some goals that writer might not necessarily use such as “use key terms, distinctions, questions, and strategies from one or more texts to understand, question, critique and/or frame other texts”. Writer will provide a better explanation and better information to readers by using more than one text. However, it is not always possible to use more than one text.

My Plan...

Well after think about this for quite some time, I have decided that my plan is going to be to get as much information as I can. To ultimately support my arguments in my papers and build from their during the revision process for my final portfolio papers.

This way I can have much more content to work with and make my arguments flow from paragraph to paragraph. I also want to get as much feedback as I can from as many people as possible to try and weed out and problems that could happen when my portfolio is read by this group of unknown people.

After that I can revise once again and have a pretty good feeling of what I am going to submit for this portfolio review.
for me the hardest goal to acheive in every essay would be to intergrate and document all summariies, paraphrases and direct quotations, and and include a works cited page correctly, i chose this one because putting it all together in MLA format is not hard, but doin it correctly is.,

and articulate and maintain controlling purposes that reflect not only what matters to those who read it but me as a writer. this all seems difficult because i will never know who my true audience is.

My Strategy

The two goals I need to work on is maintain a controlling purpose and maintain clarity throughout my paper. To help me maintain a controlling purpose I could ask people to help me. Maybe I could go to the Writing Center and get some pointers from them. That goes to the second goal as well. I believe that if I just ask for help I will do better on my papers.

Working harder

The two goals i need to incorperate unto my future work for the final portfolios are to put more of my opinion into my work, and also use the key concepts and terms into my work. I can do these things by reading the student guide, and using it as the basis of my paper. I can also use the key terms and concepts and study them, and use them into my work. If i do these 2 things i think my papers will be a lot better and will certainly be good enough for the final portfolios assesments. I also need to get my work turned in on time, still workin on it!

Goals Are Hard (ouch!!)

The two goals hardest for me to depict and describe would be, firstly, situate the writing and perspective in relation to arguments, interests and concerns of other writers, readers and text, because i sometimes am melodramatic and a bit sarcastic in my writing. The way i articulate and raise or not raise questions is discernible. Basically i have to make the assignment fit me and set goals once the main idea is out and set-up. Secondly, describing how design, arrangements and other material conditions of text shape a readers understanding. I am some what sloppy and confusing with my lack of double spacing and inadequate knowledge of MLA format. Also, i can be choppy and unorganized in how i separate a paper. This is important because all good writing has proper breaks like poetry that can really add or detract from a good piece of writing. As for appearance and arangement; i just do what feels right and what i remeber from rigid formality in school. Therefore, i need to improve.

Learning exercise

I think that the feedback from the exercise was good. it helped me read over one of my essays and see alot of the mistakes that I made in grammar. The best thing was seeing how I summarized things and make them shorter than needed. I saw that I can expand on my ideas and make thing more off of just one word. I didn't really even know you could even do this track changes on word. So I had to learn how to do that. the track changes really made me look over my essay and figure out why I write the things that I do that was nice. It was a good experience

Working Strategy

I would say working strategy's depends on who you are. If it is me I like to read through a essay first and go through each paragraph to make up a thesis as I read each and get the points I like to come out of my essay. then I work on the into and conclusion and that usually helps me find the main purpose of my essay that I usually make the title. When revising I read it over, but I notice how stupid I sound with some of my grammar and can't believe some of the stuff I wrote on there. the mistakes are only human so o well. this past time we had a work group so I used the notes they wrote mostly on the goals that they wrote. I did expand a lot and it was a good strategy to do it made my paper a page longer so that helped. it all depends on working strategy I guess to get it done.

idea vs. belief

To be able to write on any topic, first a belief in the subject has to be established. To be able to write on a topic and make it good, knowledge is needed. Anyone can easily push what they know is true, their belief, on someone. With or without substantial evidence on their belief, they can make their point and still sound smart. In the end though, those who are truly able to write, take time to find the facts, whether it disagrees with what they are talking about.
Most people fall into the category of those with beliefs, practically we all do. We all have something that we feel strongly about and know for a fact that it is true. But once that belief is there in our mind, it is not an easy task to change. That is the one subject that someone will either put up or shut up when around you. In the end those with nothing but belief, are confined to the truth that they will never grow. They will be stuck to their belief and never venture out of their protected establishment.
Those with faith, have belief in that faith and all its teachings. In turn, they are influenced heavily by their faith because they know it as true. When presented by an opposing view, they take the offensive and defensive to defend their belief and change the belief of the contradicting view. So imbedded by their belief, they give no other idea the chance to let them make an impression. Disregarding and tossing aside any outside knowledge that does not agree, leaves those so blinded by their own belief that they never have the chance to gain knowledge.
Knowledge is more than having the truth, because the truth can always be contradicted. The truth is never true; it is only true to those who believe it is true. Knowledge is about having both sides, having the views of both truths. To be able to see from inside looking out and the outside looking in allows the vision of true knowledge. To gain the insight of not only your side, but the opposing side gives you the advantage to both agree and disagree with anyone's belief.
"I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. Life should malleable and progressive; working from idea to idea permits that. Beliefs anchor you to certain points and limit growth; new ideas can't generate. Life becomes stagnant." (Dogma) Summing up everything, have beliefs, yet be open to ideas. Continually gain knowledge to maybe even help establish a better understanding of your own belief.

feedback

well as far as past experiences go with feedback im generally used to getting more feedback relating to spelling and grammer im not really used to getting feedback relating to the content of my work. im really looking for the kind of feedback i can grow from and use later in my work such as what i could have done better and does my paper make sense to the reader so on and so on....

Feedback

The type of feedback I'm used to getting back is the feedback that corrects my essays or stories. This type of feedback was from high school when i would turn in an essay or story, as a rough draft most of the time. Then i would have to correct and and turn it in, and even when i turned in the final draft i still got feedback of how my paper could've been better wrote.

This feedback is effective because it gives me guidelines and opinions from people explaining how my paper could be better.

The type of feedback i want back is feedback that helps me write my paper better, gives me some pointers, and opinions that will make my paper better. It would look something like, "I think this idea should have quotes or a fact supporting this idea or opinion"

what could help

The kind of feedback im used to getting are usually things about not explaining all the way and typos. The type of feedback I would like to get would be if what I'm saying is making sense. Trying to not lose the reader in anyway and keep them tuned into what I'm saying. So maybe I can recieve feedback on if I'm giving enough examples or details.

Feedback and its help

The feedback which i expect for a paper is usually a comment about the paper's content, if the reader like or dislike ideas in the paper. Moreover, sometimes, I would like to have feedback about my writing skills which are the use of words, grammar, phrases. In high school, my teacher usually gave me feedback about what I could improve to make my paper better such as: cut off redundancies, develop good ideas. I found feedback like this are really useful because then I can have any idea of what reader want or dont from my paper then make it better.
I would like to have the same type of feedback that I used to get. I would like feedback about what I am weak in and need to put more effort into it and what I already had. Sometimes, I want feedback about the choice of ideas, which ideas should I use, which one I shouldn't. I would like feedback be as specific as possible.

Soul Sonic Force, and feed back

The type of feed back that i am accustomed to is the one by teachers, students and peers usually do not take these group assignment seriousness (at least in high school they did). Teachers were always strait forward in what they wanted to say they did not let there personal opinions get in the way of there professional ones. The teacher feedback is really the only effective one, you are able to look at what you id wrong and then correct those mistakes before your next draft.
The type of feedback that i am looking for is an unbiased look at the technical terms of my writings. When peoples personal opinions get mixed into writing there feedback can be mixed and confusing. When you have and unbiased opinion about something you put aside your feelings and opinions and just look at the work at hand. when you do this it allows you to create the best feedback possible

Feedback, What im used to and what i want

To be quite honest the only feedback that i have ever received in my life was from kids in high school who were reading my high school writings. People know that kids in high school don't really give you all the feedback you need, or any feedback for that matter. So, the effectiveness was really irrelevant for me because i never really got any real feedback. Now, if i was to sit here today and say what kind of feedback i would want it would have to be mostly about grammar, mechanics, and punctuation because those are things that i struggle with sometimes. So if i could get feedback obviously about the things that i am struggling with it could help me understand it better and help me not to screw it up the next time i write. The only thing i don't want when it comes to feedback are people who find the tiniest little thing that you forgot to do and make it a large deal. I just want feedback on the really important things that i may have forgot to do or didn't exactly do the right way, so then i know if i can fix what they are giving me feedback on i will be on my way to being a better writer.

Feedback and whatnot.....

I am not used to getting back feedback and if it is, It is usually feedback the other person cannot really say very well they are lost at a choice of words for it. Feedback is something though I could do with or without it really matter to some people and not for some people, although it does help it is not needed all the time. I usually get feed back on how to change my writing but they never gave any detail on how it was wrong or what should I add or take out, which made it even confusing to fix something that was "broken". When It comes to the feedback I would like to get some feedback on if the paper's topic was good, how the writing flowed or, spelling and grammar just alot of detail and not just a sentence saying, "Oh, your paper lacked the requirements".
The type of feedback that I'm used to is the usual revising. For instance, correcting grammatical errors, correcting fragments, putting in suggestive ideas, and etc, etc, etc. Even though this is just the basic revising I find it really useful b/c it lets the writer know what is suggested to be corrected and by putting in some suggestive ideas it can also benefit the writer, for example, the writing can be more interesting or it can help give the writer more evidence to help support what the writer is writing about. The type of feed back that I'm looking for are of course the usual revising, and for the reader to let me know if my paper is interesting or boring, and if I should change some of the statements that I wrote.

Feedback

The type of feedback I'm used to is usually feedback that is really generic. The person giving the feedback usually asks way to broad of questions and really don't give that good of feedback. My last English teacher gave the worst feedback ever. She would ask questions like, "So what does that mean" after i just explained what it meant in my paper. She was just very confusing and plus i couldn't even read her handwriting sometimes. So in the end my paper never got better because i had no clue what she was asking. That's how a lot of my feedback was.

The type of feedback I want is very simple. I would like it if the person has a question to evaluate on the question. Tell me what you mean or give me an example of what you mean. Also i like feedback that is clear and straight to the point. Just tell me what I'm doing wrong and give an example of how I can do better. The key thing for me is examples. Some people speak in different ways so by giving an example of what you mean you can be sure the person you are giving feedback to will understand.

Feedback

Honestly, I can remember one instance where I received feedback that I actually utilized. It was last the semester, the first time I attempted this class, I was told by the reader about my word usage, and how I tend to say things without a direct focus, for instance, saying something along the lines of "times such as these" as opposed to "this time." My interpretation pieces tend to be poetic and opinionated as opposed to thought-provoking and factual. Also he stated that my sentences were often too short, and I should look into the usage of commas and semi-colons. And since then I have taken more care toward my writing and notice how it would sound to the reader and not just myself. So essentially the feedback was effective, once. I would prefer feedback that states how my essay was a brilliant masterpiece, but who wouldn't?? As far as effectual feedback, specific details and examples throughout the paper are the most helpful. When someone can circle and add words in pen to your typed up piece, so that you can physically see what the evaluator is trying to tell you, is much more helpful than reading a list through a questionnaire.

Critical Critiques

Throughout my writing career I've always had someone check over or read my writing. In high school there was a time of immense critiquing on all assignments freshman year. My papers mainly were grammatically checked for spelling mistakes and punctuation errors. Also, in my sophomore writing class's there was group and peer editing and revisions. Basically, we went through the universal writing cycle of revision which is, rough draft, grammar, revise, edit and type it again. The only good insight came from the teacher and that was to correct your papers subject if it was way off basis or didn't make sense, other wise you were on your own. This style of writing is effective but not necessarily good for growth as a writer. It was effective because your papers were neat and organized and didn't have any spelling mistakes. However there was no judgement on sentence structure, flow and things of that nature until you received your grade. Which by the time you received your grade you were over it and on to the next assignment.
What i would like to see from feedback in groups is solid writing revisions (grammar, sentence structure, punctuation) and mainly feedback that will help me get an A on my portfolio. I would like to see ruthless efficiency in my peer editors and hope they hold nothing back when critiquing my paper. I would like them to treat my paper as if it were their own and help me out with any structural mistakes, word choices, or irrelevant statements.

Feedback

I'm used to getting feedback, not as much about punctuality, as much as adding more details to make it interesting.  You got to get creative and get your reader into what you're saying, not just using big words, but maybe be funny or use good examples of your point.  Also, you have to use more technical terms. The key is to not overdue it, though.  Improving in these areas is the type of feedback I desire to receive to help make me a better overall writer.  Show me where I could use more detail and where it was overdone.
