I am doing my genre based off of 3 different songs by 3 different artists. They are all hip hop or rap artists. The similarities they have in these 3 particular songs is that they are all based on our new president, and the only black president ever, Barack Obama.
They talk about how we needed change, and how he is the future. I picked these songs because i want to show how they all created a type of genre that share similar characteristics. They all are for obama, and support him. I think these similarities help to create a type of genre that maybe good for our country.
The 3 songs i chose were Nas, "Black President; Young Jeezy, "My President"; And jay-z, "History". All 3 of these songs sharfe smilarities which include talking about change, and hpw barack obama is the start of that. I wasnt sure if i was going to use this or not, untill i watched the adress to congress speech he gave last night. Thats when i made up my mind that i wanted to do it.

good Genre titles
my opinion of what a good genre title is something that stands out. the title would have to tie the whole genre together. a title that leaves trustworthy information and also full of surprises. to make a good genre title you have to go back and think what is a good genre title ? a good genre title would have to categorize, differentiate, and narrow down your specific title. it needs a particular focus and direction.
Genre Title
Genre titles are based on the similarities between the subjects that it contains. For instance, when you have the genre of Rock, you think music with guitars, maybe singing loudly or screaming. The title of the genre should always reflect the contents that it consists of. The genre of television comedies generally includes an audience that allows you to know when you should laugh. But all of the contents of a genre are generally required to have distinctive characteristics. Specifically, a genre title should be a key word to describe what you can expect to be a part of that genre.
What qualifies a genre title as good?
There are a lot of things that need to go into creating a title for anything, but especially genres. Your title for your genre really needs it fit the description for all of the things included in your genre and it really needs to be able to give people a good idea what could be included in your genre before they even know for sure. One other thing is that it should be creative and stand out not something just bland or normal. Spice it up a little bit and be creative but also make sure that it ties all of the things included in your genre.
In order to create an effective title, I believe you have to write the body of the main of your writing first. Then you analyze what you wrote to come up with a good title. If the title is written first then what you write in the body can soon change into something a little different. One of my favorite types of titles is making it a question. Get the reader's attention by asking them something that might peak their interest.
The author of "this"
What I think a good title would be is one that doesn't have the main thing you are talking about (topic) in the title. A little extra I think is a title that makes people not really know what it means but as they read it they will then know why you called the titled the way you did.
I think a great title means that its an attention getter, that it aint boring. I think the title should sum up whatev er it is your talking or writing about. movies with great titles want people to watch the previews. books with great titles make people want to open the book and see what its all about. Articles in the newspaper that have good titles make people read the articles. so i surely believe that writing pieces that have good titles are the ones that are most interesting.
Identifying Genres
What qualifies a good genre is the use of words and titles that capture, reflect and defind the text or piece or work. This means, when the viewer sees, hears and read the title or text, they know exactly what the genre is.
Title is the summary.
The title sometimes is used as a summary of what you will be talking in the essay. Therefore, I think, good title first has to match with the content of the essay, for instance, If you write about summer, the title should be "summer", not " winter". It can be also be use as part of the thesis. The title is usually short but it is necessary to make it understandable and make sense so reader can have some ideas of what you will talk about and decide if they want to read it or not. Secondly, a good title shouldn't be too broad. The more specific and clear the title is, the easier it will caught readers' interests and attention.
What makes a genre title good
I believe there are three basics steps on what makes a genre title good. First the title has to be interesting and catches your audiences attention. It should be very creative and not just something you put down. Second it should pretty much sum up what your genre is. The audience should tell from your title what your genre is. Lastly it should not be to wordy or long just short and sweet. It should maybe have like three to five words not a whole sentence. If you use these three basic steps I believe you will have a pretty good title for your genre.
What Makes a Genre Statement Good(or interesting for me)
A genre statement should be catchy. Genre should be blunt, to the point, and above all else uniquely interesting. You want words or a word that describe every aspect of the subject, getting in to every nook and cranny, history, time, experience, feelings, and emotions. However you want the genre title to be a little vague to make it appealing and interesting to people who have never heard of it or just discovered it. You want a genre theme/title that doesn't give the whole point of the subject away, something that sticks with you and makes you buy that item. A genre title/statement should be a unique understanding of that item easily expressed through a describing word.
What makes a good title eh?
A good title for me would be to, have a title that would relate to the writing, but also didn't relate to it. Kind of like a book, for instane moby dick you would've thought that whale was a man not a white whale. A good title to me can intrest the reader but have the story catch them off guard and have change all together.
I think what makes a good genre title is, of course, something catchy to the readers' eyes. Make it interesting that when a reader comes across the title it makes that person wants to pick up the piece of writing and read it, and the title should also relate to the reader in some way. These are just some of the things that i think would a tribute to a good genre title.
The Title Making Genres
I think that a good title for my own genre is one that would directly relate to the text or texts that I am speaking about. It would be something that relates to the subject matter and can be defined easily, in stead of having to wonder what this essay could be hinting at. One way is to find words that will work with the subject matter. That's the whole point to making a title.
I think its kinda hard just to throw a simple title on a genre without having some sort of explanation. How often have you been stuck trying to think of a title? Its going to be that much harder to think of a title for a whole genre.

title prefrence
for me i feel that the title is the last thing that is put onto a piece of writting. i think that by doing so the author can captivate everything that is in the work into a short catchy phrase that will get the readers attention. but if i cant think of one, ill just jot down a generic title.
what is a title
I think that what goes into my titles is I wait to see what I have written and try to find things that i go back to time and time again in the essay about the genre. I take lets say I talk about rock music if I talk about the different styles of playing guitar and how it has evolved into many different ways to play. I would then probably make the title Guitar Styles Evolved. For it mostly has to relate to the essay sort of like a newspaper headline.
What Art in Yonder Statement Breaks
Check out this article and post a comment about what makes a statement unique.
Guitars have revitilzed music
Base text: A guitar hero Controller – it introduced me to a whole new type of genre of music, metal, rock, country, a lot of which I like more than any other type of music.
Rock music- It’s something that is starting to make a comeback to where people are starting to listen to It more on the radio, on their mp3s, or at home.
Daft Punk- made songs that were like rock but are techno in a way that I like. They are very distinct and are French.
The French- French teenagers like to listen to techno, they like the Japanese, on how they do a lot of things, they also like anime, or animated Japanese cartoons.
What all these have in common is that they all in a genre of music The Japanese have their own form of music that they use in their own way, like the French. The French like techno because it all sounds similar but different at the same time which is true for all music it all sounds the same but its all different. Daft Punk are French composers of techno and they have had a big influence on music for the last decade they even made a song with Kanye west called stronger which was remixed with rap.
Rock music is in techno music but its in a different form with both combined. Rock has a lot of subgenres just like techno it even has a genre called classic rock which would be what Elvis Presley would be, and many more.
Guitar hero…. Many people would wonder why did he ever pick this and the controller at that, well the controller symbolizes rock and a real guitar. Guitar hero has influenced more than people know the younger generation to have a reason to like Rock music, and to get more people to play the guitar or who want to play it even more now. As much as it seems like just a game it is more than just a game because the music in those games may grow on people and they may branch out and find that music and it’s also a way to find if you have a knack for a certain genre of music. They have all types of music they even have rap songs in the game which makes for all people who enjoy any type of music to enjoy it. It has centrally jumpstarted the genre of Rock and has made a big influence on people and what music they listen to today.

Casual Teenage Clothing
I pick clothes as my basic text. The clothes that I pick are from 4 different brands: American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch, Gap and Urban Behavior. They are very famous brands which provide clothing for both boys and girls along with accessories such as purses, shoes, jewelry. The similarities between them are all their designs focus on teenage customers. In these stores, the styles which are easily seen are T-shirt and Jeans. Most of the designs are for daily and casual wear and the prices are affordable for teenagers. Most of teenagers very like clothes belong to these brands. There are a lot of advertising and marketing are put on the clothes when they are produced. The differences between them are Urban behavior’s clothes are focused more on elegance, provides some more dressy outfits , American Eagle focuses on simple and fit to daily use while Gap is basically the combination of T-shirt and Jeans and Abercrombie& Fitch focuses on high quality and casual luxury clothing with a little higher prices.
The genre of "love"
All of the love songs that I chose to use as part of my genre speak of a specific person or thing. Tenth Avenue North dedicated their song to the Lord and Jesus. However, Death Cab for Cutie and Snow Patrol speak of someone , but are not specific to whom , or if these people are real or fictional. The songs of love by these two bands have sad tones, as if to say love is painful, sometimes torturous. Tenth Avenue North sings of the potential for loves power to heal. While Jack Johnson sings of the best parts of love, such as growing together and spending time together. There are many different types of love songs; happy, sad, confused, angry, lost, broken-hearted, heart-mended, etc... The songs I chose all speak of the emotion, possibilities, and hopes and dreams of the composers.

Universal Text, by Delores Green
The medium that I chose as my text is art work. I started with my own creations of images of the universe which I use in designing clocks. I found different artwork in the form of prints, books, and videos that also use images of the universe as its genre. The materials I found include: A video that is "The complet History of the universe - Major artwork, written by Sir Patrick Moore, Bruce May and Chris Linold, Bang! At another web-site I found "Our Solar System College Prints" that provide prints in different sizes that reflect images of the universe. And, at anothe site I found "Sky High Gallery: Presents art that is out of this world". They provide prints that include images of the universe, planets, with people and other objects in the forefront of in some of the prints.
The simarlarities I found in my works and the works I found on the web, is they all reflect images of time, space, and the universe. This genra causes the viewer to think about the vastness and mysteries of the universe. Most of the prints and other texts I found, also seem to be images of real scenes of the universe, opposed to being hand painted or created using a software programs to create the images, such as my designs.

Baby Songs
For my three texts I chose three well-known country singers. Their names are Eric Church, Kenny Chesney, and Darius Ruckers (A.K.A Hootie from Hootie and the Blow Fish). I picked the songs “Two Pink Lines” by Eric Church, “There Goes My Life” by Kenny Chesney, and “It Won’t be Like This for Long” by Darius Ruckers. One similarity these songs have in common is that they all have to do with pregnancy. Another similarity is that they all take place at a young age. One difference is that “Two Pink Lines” is the funny one out of all three, while the other ones are more serious. Another difference is that also in the song “Two Pink Lines” at the end of the song the people find out that they are not pregnant where in the other two they are. In the song “There Goes My Life” Kenny Chesney sings about a young high school boy who gets a girl pregnant. All through the song he talks about the things the boy has to let go and lose but he also talks about the things that the young boy gains. This is kind of the same thing as the song “It Won’t be Like This for Long” except the couple is a little older and they planned on having a baby. One thing that these two songs have mostly in common is that at the end they both don’t want their babies to grow up and leave.
The Idea Of Bad Morals..
For my texts I selected 2 comic book writers and and novel writer. I selected Alan Moore for his work mainly on Watchmen, V For Vendetta and Swamp Thing. I also picked Neil Gaiman for his for work on Sandman. And last Chuck Palunhnik for his books such as Fight Club, Choke and Survivor.
These writers and texts have these idea's of the so called "bad guy" winning, when we have all been brought up with the idea of whats right and wrong / good and bad. In their own separate genres they have turned the world upside down a bit. You have Alan Moore taking a terrorist and make you feel sympathy for this character. You have Watchmen and the heroes being casted away and only used when the Government sees fit because of corruption not for the good of man.
All these texts talk of life and death, interpersonal communications and the idea that the villains can all win no matter how horrible they are. Now I'm not saying these works are bad in anyway its just this upside down view of morals. If I had to put my own name on a genre for these works I would call it a Satire Fantasy. Its like the corruption spread from the pages to the real world and we see it everyday.

Coding in Paintings
The artist that I find most fascinating are Leonardo da Vinci, Van Gogh and Edward Munch. Their paintings are the most amazing because all of their work have a coding in them and how they paint say something interesting about who they are and what/how they think. Some of the paintings that I lie from the artists are "The Last Supper", "Mona Lisa", "The Scream", and "Starry Starry Night". Each of these pictures have a distinct feature to it. They all have a hidden clue/secret to it. When you look at these images closely you can see the truth behind it. Like for example the painting "the last supper", when you look to the right of Jesus Christ the person is a woman, meaning that Jesus was married before he was crucified.
just jotted down
For my three similar ‘texts’ with a common medium I chose three songs, the first two are by the Flobots, and the third is by Lil Wayne. The songs are “There is a war going on for your mind”, “Handlebars”, and “Georgia Bush” respectively. I chose these ‘texts’ because they have a very similar meaning in them. “There is a war going on for your mind” and “Georgia Bush” share the commonality of harping on the reality of society. The Flobots harp on a few of the same things that Barbra Kruger does, just with lyrics instead of photos with cropped on slogans. With such statements as “Cover girl cutouts throw up pop-up ads infecting victims with silicone shrapnel”. This statement goes along great with Kruger’s image of Marylyn Monroe with the words not good enough around it.
And then there is the Lil Wayne song “Georgia Bush”, and with and the song is without a doubt about former president George Bush. This song is about hurricane Katrina and how poorly executed the relieve efforts were by F.E.M.A. and Bush. This is evident by not only the title but also by this lyrical line “Hurricane Katrina, we should've called it hurricane (Georgia) Bush then they telling y'all lies on the news the white people smiling like everything cool” this line after being broken down implies that the hurricane should have been called Georgia, making a pun of the son “Georgia” by Ray Charles, and adding Bush to complete the pun of making fun of at the time, president George Bush. “Telling y’all lies on the news” incorporates a relation to the song “There is a war going on for your mind”. So in other words these two songs are talking about how the government is covering up their mistakes by blaming other things and other people, and in part being corrupt.
This in turn brings me to the song “Handlebars” by the Flobots. With the previous two songs being about corruption of society and governmental leaders, this song “Handlebars” seems to be about not needing the government or its leaders to handle themselves. The artists show this by stating “I can design an engine 64 miles to the gallon on gasoline I can make new antibiotics I can make computer survive aquatic conditions I know how to run the business and I can make you wanna buy a product movers shakers and producers me and my friends understand the future I see the strings that control the systems I can do anything with no assistance”.

Genre of R&B Music
People have their particular genre's for music. My style is Hip Hop/R&b, but more specifically, R&B. The main artist i want to portray is Ne-yo. And some of the surrounding artists include George Nozuka and Stevie Hoang. Some of their similarities include: they have great voices for singing, use piano beats, and occasionally sing soul style music. Their differences include their nationality: Ne-yo is African American, George Nozuka is half Japanese and half canadian, and stevie hoang is Chinese. It's crazy how no matter where you come from in the world, how similar and popular R&B music is. Some more differences include how george nozuka and Ne-yo do pop music occasionally, but Stevie Hoang focuses more on hip hop and soul.
Tom Waits For I am a Rain Dog too
Tom Waits emerged around the 70's as a drunken-wino looking growlin barkin mad dog of lounge music and inebriated travelogues. Im picking Tom Waits music and more specifically his album Rain Doggs thats main point is to focus on all of the crazies, lovers, brothers, friends, enemies and pretty much everyone else you can meet between the hours of 9to6am. Its a midnight romp through NYC dirtiest dives and wittiest of insobordinators. Im cross sectioning his music with the poetry that inspired him ginsberg, kerouac, dylan etc.....because this will give a broader spectrum to analyze his music and open your pallette up a little for Mr. Waits. As well as poetry ill contrast Rain Dogs with some experimental films that follow along the same patterns of late nights and emotional weather reports such as the work of Wes Anderson in Bottle Rocket and the Royal Tenenbaums. Im going to be a little bold as well and compare his music to what popular now and even some of the greatest composers ever to live to show how epic and mysterious Waits can get.

genre of music punk
I decided to pick the genre of punk, but more specifically the bands that started it like even more specific the sex pistols one of the godfathers of this genre. they only had one album, but aren't the only godfathers, there are the ramones, and talking heads, etc. there is a big difference between these 3 bands in the genre of punk like where they came from sex pistols are london's and ramones and talking head are new york cbgbs punk. I picked these bands cuz they were not afraid to say what they wanted. sex pistols just a very against the grain band that had a rebelis attitude they showed what attitude can do for a band. they also had songs like anarchy in the UK to shake things up.
statement on essays
I liked how the first essays statement on "there was a bit of arguing to show that one point is more valid then the other" it set up that paragraph. I also thought that essay 3 has a background statement on the 1980 to set up the essay it sucks you in cuz you know that they know what they are talking about by researching it. those were just some of the statements that stuck out to me they just really had some strong words in them that pointed out a genre and what history is behind them.

Kruger’s Prints
I have found Kruger’s prints to be very intriguing. Kruger uses advertisement genre to convey messages about social issues concerning some of the negative attitudes and images towards women. Her use of contradicting and contrasting images and words to convey her messages is very effective. Her work has a degree of ambiguity that requires the viewer to think about what the images are really saying, and why?
I like the way she uses short clichés to express her messages. Her use of red, white, black, and gray colors is attractive and provides a depth to the images of the people and objects she employs. Her use of a red background with white letters draws the viewer’s attention to the letters. The style of the fonts she uses is not fancy or flashy; to the contrary, the fonts provide a degree of straight forwardness of the messages they convey - there’s seriousness about it.
Her prints have a nice 1950ish style; a style that would have been very in-style and popular during the 1950s.

Sundown Towns
When you think of how bad racism was after the civil war, it's safe to say the south comes to mind. I came across an article that explained some of the racism from the northern states. Certain towns from all over developed into sundown towns. This means that African Americans were not allowed to be outside after dark. Signs were put up warning them about these laws and they were pretty explicit. The main goals of sundown towns was to run out the African American race. Some towns kept on these practices up to the eighties, not as much by the signs, but by doing little things like refusing to allow African Americans to rent out a motel.

Who's the creater of genre?
Well in my own aspect I wouldn't really know who the makes or create genre. But I do think that the artists do make genre because of they have a particular context or technique in art. I'm not to sure about scholars creating a genre. But there are certain people that have the interest in genre and there are some that are not. So it just really all depends on who is has the most interest in art or a artist who has the experience with art. I think that music can be define as a genre too. But I guess it all really depends on who has the interest to genre or muisc.
Genres ? Who needs them ?
I believe that both artists and scholars contribute to making a genre. The roles of the artists and scholars differ in making genre. It is the artists who bring the genre into the picture by making an interpretation or posing an opinion then acting on that impulse and creating a series of artworks. Then the role of the scholars is to come in and analyze, redefine and clarify that specific genre.
Genres are created for a wide range of people. Just as people differ in taste and opinion they differ in preference of genre. Due to this a wide range of genres are created to suit almost everyone. Genres serve few different purposes ranging from a style of music to a type of art or expression. This way every ones different points of view along with their preferences are expressed for each and every individual to pick and choose from to their liking.

Genre
I believe that anyone can make a genre, as long as they understand the meaning of making a genre art. It don't matter if its a scholar or an artist, both can make a genre equally on what they depict it to be. I feel that a genre functions on the realistic things that goes on in the world today because genre is a type of art the a person uses to express how she or he feels on a certain topic.
Genre's Function...
I would say that genre is created by the consumer who likes it and continues to like the product. Certain genres just don't pop up one day and begin with a huge audience, it usually takes some time to create these so called genre's. Artists sure do have a hand in creating a certain genre but its also the idea of taking ideas from the past and changing them to make those ideas your own. Some scholars can try to make genres and but pieces of work where they think it belongs but the viewer may have a different idea where those works should belong.
I think genre is the need to have something classified, its a term to describe a certain way it looks or sounds. It's all making it up as it goes along, because what happens when you have 2 genres in one? Do you put it under one or both, or neither. Its an opinion on how the works are seen and viewed by their viewers/fans. I think it all performs a function to keep everything in a certain area and keep order with these works. But an artist can create a piece of work and be classified in a certain genre because Scholars think that is where the artist should be. Even though at one time the artist may have never had the intention to be under a so called genre.

Genre
I would have to say that genres are not really something that someone can just come up with and create. I believe that genres kind of form over time. The first thing that pops into my mind when i think of genres is music, and mainly the genre of country music comes to mind. Now i don't think that just randomly one country music singer decided one day to create country music, i think it is something that develops after a number of people do the same kind of thing. Even then i can't really think about how they form a genre or who actually gets to come up with it. I would think a long time ago people were coming up with genres and they just kind of have stuck and now that is what people do today. Now in regards to what purposes does a genre function or for whom it functions, I would say are very important things. A genre obviously categorizes a certain group of work and it is going to pertain to whoever likes the things within that genre so that's who the genre functions for.
genre
I think that what makes a class of genre is a common theme in many different artist's work. It could also be that the artist created the genre and many had the same idea at that time just in a pinch of a different way and then made it a genre. Artist for the most part make up the genre, but I don't believe that they planed it that way. It is cause people are obsessed with categorizing things that we made it a genre and took away from some of their art from doing this. The only purpose that we have genres for is for the sole purpose of writing it down in history, so many can learn off it and put it in a section where people can find things easier, faster, and find others just like a artist.
Genre
I believe that anyone can make a genre. Artists, such as musicians, especially make their own genre by using different instruments, and having a unique voice like when a person is singing a rock song their voice is usually raspy and low rather than the voices you usually hear in a pop song. Other artists that make a genre is writers. Some writers write scary stories where there is always a monster trying to eat people. Some writers write romantic novels where there is a girl and a boy who fall in love have some conflict but they always work it out. So i really believe that artists make a genre.
I think we have genres to not have everything be the same. If everything was the same life would be so boring. We need genre's to keep it interesting. Plus everyone has their own style and things they like. With so many genre's to choose from everyone can find what they are looking for. Lets take me for an example. I love romance. Now what if I want to read something that has to do with romance. I would go to the romantic section in the library and find what i want. So we have genre's to make life boring but interesting and exciting.

genre
A genre is started souley by a group of individuals with common interest. It is an idea that is shared by people and it becomes known almost universally. Communism, socialism, feminism, gangster, rich, so on and so forth are just examples of different genres created not by scholars or artist, but by people with shared ideas. Scholars categorize genres, artists use genres to pulp up their pieces, but they have no hand in the creation. Genre's function for the people, and in turn make people in a sense. They break people down and give them a place, a thought of security almost, that lets them have the feel that they are not alone and their ideas are held up by others. In the same sense, however, genres also build up people and almost gives them a goal of what they want to be in life. Genre is a description in a sense. It just helps categorize.
who is the creater?
when thinking of a genre one may ask who created this genre? I beleive that both scholars and the authors create the genre. But the genre that is decided between the both of them can will will vary, as is the case for any reader trying to classify a piece of literary work. i feel that a genre functions for everbody, it can help a person decide if they want to read about sports or horror stories.
About genre
I think scholars make up genres because it has pictures in it but its not all about the pictures. The statements and the way the words look can say a lot more than what the picture says. Artists do have some part to in a genre because of the picture but I say a scholar has more to deal with it, because I think its easier to understand words than it is just to understand pictures alone. A genre functions as something to get people to believe that something is so because it's a majority or because it's true. Some genres is from someone trying to convince someone that it's suppose to be thought about in a specific way. Some things are to be looked at in only one way and other things are to be looked at in a lot of ways.
Genre
I believe that artists came up with the 'genre' term to put different classifications for the things they were doing. Genres were created in an independent style for the writers and readers. Genre is a type of distinctive form that describes different elements of writing. I believe the purpose of a genre is to shuffle and sort pieces of work to an appropriate category. Genres are meant for anyone who decides to write or create a piece of art work so that there is some meaning behind their mad ways.
Genre Shenanigans
Genre's seem like they have been around for ages, weather it is in the music genre's, art genre's or any other kind of genre as long as i can remember they have been around. The artists don't make the genres anymore they have been around for too long that they have to basically conform to what genres are already there. At some point in time the scholars may have created the genres, but recently it seems that new new genres have emerged since the early 90's. A genres one function is that it classifies art, music, or anything else into certain groups, they almost seem to eliminate individualism seeing as at this point in time there are so many genres that there are really no knew artist that seem to go outside these previously created genres.
Genre
I define genre as a series of things which has similarities. All of them are defined as a group or type. Genre can be formed by whoever: artist, writer, composer, etc. One can create genre by create a series of things which has similarities but exclusive to any others and carry his or her style, and ideas. Artists create genre through their pictures, base on their style of using color, shape and ideas. The same with writers, they create genre through their writing which carry their style, the use of writing techniques, use of vocabulary and their ideas.
The purpose of genre is to define one type to others. One create his or her genre through the works to define him/herself to others. For instance, in Barbara Kruger's case, her arts made people remember her and every time they look at her images, they can tell right away that is her works. Genre also reflects thoughts, beliefs of person who create it.

Defining Genre
The base word for genre is general. Genre thus is a general group opinion used to categorize and define specific types of art. The purpose of genre is to group art together and keep it separate for aesthetic purposes such as, time period, culture, or art movement. Who defines genre is a very good question and probably not one person has been the sole creator of the purpose genre has. A specific artist could, by accident of repetition or style or subject create a genre in the "art scene". When artists in the dark ages or even before that were creating art they were making their work like everyone else's because there was no way else to do it. Nowadays art is much more open to interpretation. Genre was created so people could feel like they understood the artists work. Art is categorized into different genres for business purposes as well. Think, if there were no generes then how would the art galleries put on shows or move art with all the countless number of peices. After all professional artists don't do their work for free. When there is a specific type of art or scheme it is easier to display the art and then sell it. Sometimes art becomes trapped in a genre (like Andy Warhol's pop art) and it is hard for the artist to escape and move on. Art has to many dimensions to have genres, all the socialites or art conasouers who define art can only try and put peices together that mesh and look similar.
genre
I think both artists and scholars make a genre because it takes different kinds of people to come together and put together similar works or arts that are like each other. I also think students, teachers, and ordinary people all help to create a genre also. A genre functions because the writing or art has similar features and characteristics. It is an expressive style of writing toward a certain thing. It maybe a newspaper, story, or essay that has the same type of genre. I also think it functions if it all has similar ideas.
What creates genre
What makes a genre to me is, the fact that you tried to voice your say in something that you tried to show an understanding for something you were talking about. I think anyone can make a genre some are just more known than others. A regular everyday person can make a genre, it does not have to be a famous person all the time. My nephew is an artist and I would say his style of drawing is a genre because it is something that he created he express his words through drawing, and I find that interesting from an artist' point of view. He is just and everyday regular guy but to a person more known around the world like Leonardo Da Vinci he made his genre known to the world through what he did. Da Vinci looked at the sky to see stars, he was a philosopher and some people looked down on him but some respected him as well. Everyone will not agree with a genre but anyone can make one. A genre can make a person into a different person depending on If you look at that person as say for instance An emotional writer but they have a gothic style of writing you would then start to look at them as having more of a gothic writing style. Or a person who is a poet like Edgar Allen Poe he had a gothic writing style that made people look at him like a dark person but he was not always that way. A genre also can change a person with their views and their writings or anything they ever do. If you have a genre you are the genre, but you can change your genre and the first one will remain because someone out there will agree with that genre and take it for their own. Almost like a trend but a good kind of trend.
Genre
I think both the artist and the scholars make a genre. First off, the artist is the creator whether it be in movies, music, literature, etc.. He decides what to base his work on and goes from there. What the scholar does is add on to any extra genres the artist may have portrayed. For example, say the artist made an action movie. Maybe there's a couple funny scenes, but enough to also label the movie under comedy as well. The artist is important but I think the scholar deserves a lot of the credit as well.
The function a genre serves is to give the audience something to expect. You don't go into a movie theatre and watch The Dark Knight, for example, expecting to see a romantic comedy (unless you're an idiot). Basically, you have an idea of what type of movie you're watching.

Hunters Madness
Hunter S. Thompson was one of the best writers of his generation. You've all probably heard of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to some extent (or at least seen the movie). HST is one of my all time favorite writers. I try and style my writing after his. Not that im about to run out and copy him and take a bunch of illicit, hallucinogenic drugs, but i love his energy and his personality in all of his works. Even in his personal letters to his mother, editor or close friends Hunter came through personally in his writing. This got me to investigate him a little more, and after watching numerous documentaries on his life and times i've discovered something rather intriguing about him. See, Hunter started like every other writer who wants to become a professional, from the bottom. He started out actually copying his favorite books word for word. Some of his favorites to copy were The Great Gatsby or anything else by F Scott Fitzgerald. Entire books would be punched out on his typewriter so that he could "get the rythm and mentalility of the author." And if you think about it for a second this is sheer genius. What better way to improve your writing or try and experiment then copying some of the most famous books of all time?
Making Changes
As you know its already tough for others to make changes in their life...Its not easy because if you want to change a person to become better person its difficult. Don't you think so? Like for instance I tried changing a smoker and drinker into a non-smoker and n0n-drinker but its tough cuz they are addict to it...geez people these days are so hard to change in life...

Taking Risks
Most people tend to make their life easy, but sometimes risks and difficulties might bring you opportunities to make you better. Writing works in the same way. Easy ideas might come up right away to you and you can easily make up an essay. However, if they are simple ideas then the essay will be predictable. Therefore, your essay cannot catch readers’ attention since they know what you will talk about. One might face difficulties when writing about something new. However when you think about the readers’ reaction: would they like to read a common essay which everyone knows or would they like to read an essay with new ideas even if the topic might be a bit bizarre. So do not hesitate to try new thinking and do not be afraid of exploring something difficult, you might find out that you can do better than what you thought. Everything has two sides, taking risks might be precarious but it also might bring you success so think carefully when you make a decision but do not take a safe way all the time. Your papers might be right all the time but does not mean they are always interesting. My goals for writing is keeping it right but not boring.
is everything posted on the english 101 blog site revelant?
As I was going through the blog postings trying to think of something to blog about, I've seen many blogs posted that don't even have anything to do with english. Those blogs are irrevlant, i wonder do they still get points for posting something that is irrelvelant to our english?...

Does reading help a writer ?
In my opinion, in order to be a good writer, you first have to be a good reader. If one is a good reader, he or she will know how to approach other readers and know what readers expect or desire from his/ her writing. When I start reading an essay what I look forward to is the thesis, and its details. I realize when I do so, I accidentally ignore the writing techniques and style. I think that people can improve their writing by reading more because when I read, I sometimes can pick up some good ideas, good phrases or vocabulary and apply them to my writing in my way. Reading a lot of essays about the same topic sometimes opens my mind of what people are thinking and how different people think about an issue. Reading is not only for gaining knowledge but also a learning tool for writing. Some people might say reading doesn’t help at all since writing is about expressing your feelings rather than how well you can read. But by learning to become a good reader it improves your vocabulary and writing structure so you can make a good description of what you want to say. Yes, anyone can write, one might have a very good piece of writing, fancy stuff and good descriptions but if it’s not appropriate and can’t approach to readers, it might not be considered “ good” writing.

Four Score And Seven Years...

On Thursday it will be the 200 birthday of one of our greatest Presidents. Abraham Lincoln and its the thought that this President handled our worst crisis ever and brought this country back together. I only wonder what would he do today to solve our current crisis? This economy keeps heading south and it doesn't look to be getting better anytime soon. In a time where we need our elected officials to do whats best for the American Public, it leaves me with the feeling that the corruption that we as a nation let stand for the last 8 years will only cause more of a wound.
As a person who loves American history I cherish this moment but at the same worry about the state of our country and where it is headed. We have a President who is trying to find the right path but we have such bi-partisanship that we may never fix this. Because in my opinion the republicans want their cut just like the last 8 years. And all this bickering is really doing is letting the public forget that we wasted mass amounts of money in Iraq. (Trust me I spent nearly 500 days there.)
So I hope that eventually we will be back to a steady economy. But for today its thinking of the past and of a harder time with a President who brought this country out of dismay and darkness.
Happy 200 Birthday President Lincoln

WoW
I can't believe marquette lost to a team that was 2-7 in the big east. That sucks for them consider that uconn isn't far up the road and they need the wins in the big east if they want to be top of the conference. How did they marquette not make that last hoop of the game they had 3 trys I can't believe that game. Disapointting game for many marquette fans like me I can't belive this. still cant wait for that louisvile game.

in class on wednesday there was an essay (letterpress language) about different ways to write down words and symbols to get different meanings. I found surprising because I knew there were different ways like all caps and having bolded letters but the way the author had exclamation points in words or spelled every word wrong was cool because it mad sense and could be looked at in different ways.
Riddles !!! have some fun !
1. If it doesnt beat, it's dead. If it beats, it's alive. What is it ?

The President is pretty angry
So I found out that the stimulus bill that Barrack Obama had began to sign was goin to give money to everyone in the country. Come to find out, when he gave money to the banks half of what they got out of the bill is missing and the say they cannot account for. So the President is infuriated by all this and he is not having a good week or a good first start at all.
Duke... Losing it
Up until the game against Wake Forest Duke was looking great at #1. Then they lose with seconds left on the clock. Earlier this week Clemson exposes Duke by crushing them 47-74. That's what happens when you're a team that relies on shooting. Next they manage to beat Miami. I just can't wait for North Carolina to take care of business on Wednesday.

Phelps takes a hit
The record setting swimmer Michael Phelps has recently created a scandle for this picture of him that showed him with i different kind of water, bong water. He has been suspended and cut off from sponsor dollars during a three month period. Is it really fair to punish him for his mistake of indulging in a little bit of chronic? He has publicly apologized for his mistake and is it necessary for this suspension? This is an excerpt from his apologetic speech
"I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment," the Olympian said. "I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me.
"For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again."
So is it really fair to punish him?
Golden Eagles
Can't wait till louisville game against marquette. It will be a good show down they are both undeafeated in the conference both evenly ranked right now even tho marquette should be higher than louisville. I do think tho marquette is going to lose to uconn and pittsburgh I hope they win. I think Marquette is going to make it to the final four. Very underestimated team better than ppl think.
kobe who?
now u say kobes great just because he dropped 61 at the garden, although lebron only dropped 52, look at the bigger picture. not only did kobe only have 3 ast. but he also had no boards. lebron on the other hand was in a triple dip with 52 points, 11 ast, and 10 boards, making him the first player do this since the merger of the nba - aba. (the last person to do it was kareem abdul jabbar) and also not to mention only lebron and jordan have had 2, 50 or more point games scored at the garden.

The Syntax and the Lorax

Dr. Seuss was the rhyme master of his time. Syntax is a way of explaining good "flow" in a piece of writing. Sometimes a good piece will have a mathematical type style other times it will be extremely obscure or even fanciful. Syntax is something that i am now discovering fully and utilizing in all of my writing. Dr. Seuss used made up words that sound like other words with different meanings called spoonerism to create humorous effects. Syntax is a calculated way of being extremely imaginative and not having to worry about being sloppy or confusing.
how i write
I have to have interest in what i am writing about, cause i know that when i get personal their is a difference between the writings. i also do my best to not lose the reader, i give examples, explanations, details, ext. to insure that the reader isn't lost and confused on refrences and personal remarks.

kobe Bryant
I know this has nothing to do with english but i want some opinions...for all you in english 101 tell me your opinion...Is kobe bryant the closest player to michael jordan?...just for a side note, he dropped 61 against the knicks tonight
Fear and Loathing in the English 101 Room
Time again for a new class where i can compulsively worry about new assignments, late nights, massive mind numbing amounts of reading and gallons of coffee. With each new semester comes a sense of calm even in the midst of an overwhelming schedule. I become a machinist overseeing the classes and organizing and speculating assignments like a machine operator in a factory. Strangely I do find serenity in chaos, especially when it is instantly gratifying things like a completed assignment. This may sound extremely absurd to some of you, but there is a "method to my madness." Over the past two years I've learned some important facts of life. I no longer take the little things for granted. The most minuscule things such as a breath of cold winter air, or even cereal for breakfast. I'm taking it all in every last drop of it.....
Just....The Doctor
We are asked to give our opinion on what good writing is to us. But that shouldn't really matter, should it? Its that false sense of security to makes us feel like we are involved in the process somehow. But this isn't the business of opinions its the business of grades and most of the time when you give an opinion someone is going to be biased about it one way or another. Which ends up making me believe that in this program my thoughts of what good writing is doesn't really matter. Its what the English Dept. wants you to do and have to play by their rules.
Anyone can have good writing, its just having to play by someone else's set of rules and finding out how to make your writing the way they want it not the other way around. It gives each person that false sense of security and in the end that sense betrays you.

Superbowl Commercials
The superbowl commercials were pretty good this year. Having good commercials for the superbowl is a good thing for me since thats the only reason why i do watch the superbowl unless the Packers are playing lol. My favorties were definitly the one with the two babies for etrade and the career bulider one. The career bulider one made me laugh so hard because it is what my boyfriend feels about his job lol. All in all they were pretty good commercials besides the beer ones. They were not as funny as they were last year.
march madness
now that the superbowl is over, and nobosy watches the pro bowl, we can all look forward to march madness. seems to me that marquette is doin pretty killer this season, and with them being just down the road im gonna b rooting for them.
super bowl
The commercials weren't very funny this year on the super bowl. I guess the writers of the commercials didn't care to much. The best one I think was the first bud light one, but bud sucks you should drink pabst or miller. I was very dissapointed in the cardinals the defense lost that game for them. O well Packers next year super bowl, that or the titans.

Weekends
Weekends can tend to get a bit lengthy dependiong on how you look at them. This past weekend I stayed in my house and just watched television and did home work all day. I saw that it was a nice day outside the news said it was the warmest day would we would have in weeks and I could not go out because I did not feel like it (laughs). For me it just shows how close summer is coming into view and it is going to bring with it very very hot days that I have not gotten used to in years. Maybe this year summer will be diffrent and I will go out on the weekends maybe it wont be so hot, I guess I'll give it a try......
