Tom Waits For I am a Rain Dog too
Tom Waits emerged around the 70's as a drunken-wino looking growlin barkin mad dog of lounge music and inebriated travelogues. Im picking Tom Waits music and more specifically his album Rain Doggs thats main point is to focus on all of the crazies, lovers, brothers, friends, enemies and pretty much everyone else you can meet between the hours of 9to6am. Its a midnight romp through NYC dirtiest dives and wittiest of insobordinators. Im cross sectioning his music with the poetry that inspired him ginsberg, kerouac, dylan etc.....because this will give a broader spectrum to analyze his music and open your pallette up a little for Mr. Waits. As well as poetry ill contrast Rain Dogs with some experimental films that follow along the same patterns of late nights and emotional weather reports such as the work of Wes Anderson in Bottle Rocket and the Royal Tenenbaums. Im going to be a little bold as well and compare his music to what popular now and even some of the greatest composers ever to live to show how epic and mysterious Waits can get.
